Dunne on Wine: Area barberas get high marks

Once upon a time -- actually, up until about 10 days ago -- I looked upon pinot noir as the one red wine we could continue to enjoy right through summer.
After judging wines recently at county fairs in El Dorado and Amador, however, I'm now convinced that pinot noir has a contender for best summertime red.

The results of the 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition are in! Fifty-five professional wine judges from throughout the United States evaluated more than 3,800 wines from over 1500 wineries from over 20 states. The judging of the wines took place in Sonoma County on January 9-12.
